Preschool Ghost Craft
Once you’ve got the supplies ready, this project comes together quickly. Kids will love blowing the paint into funny ghost shapes, then adding eyes and mouths to bring them to life. It’s just the right mix of spooky and silly for a Halloween afternoon.
What You’ll Need
- Google eyes
- Black cardstock or construction paper
- White Crayola kids paint
- Black Sharpie
- Straw
- Pipette
How to Blow a Ghost
Add the paint: Use a pipette (or just a spoon) to place a small blob of white paint on the black paper. Bigger blobs make bigger ghosts.

Blow the ghost into shape: Angle your straw toward one side of the paint dot and blow. Keep the straw straight for a long, wispy ghost, or move it side to side to flare the paint out. Kids love experimenting to see how their ghosts form.

Let it dry: Once you’re happy with the shape, set the paper aside to dry completely.
Flip and decorate: Turn the paper so the rounded part of your paint blob is at the top. Glue on googly eyes, then use a marker to add a little oval mouth. Encourage kids to try different shapes — uneven mouths make the ghosts look especially spooky.
Display the artwork: Once the glue dries, hang them on a wall, string them into a garland, or tuck them into a Halloween display. Each ghost will have its own unique and quirky personality.
Tips for Parents & Teachers
Thin the paint slightly with water if it’s too thick to move easily.
Use washable paint to make cleanup easier.
Cut straws in half for little ones so they don’t blow too hard.
Prep multiple sheets ahead of time if you’re doing this with a group — drying time can feel long when kids are excited.
Mix up the eyes and mouths for a ghost family with lots of personality.
Halloween is the perfect time to lean into simple crafts that spark big smiles. These blow-painted ghosts are quick to set up, full of surprises, and easy for kids of all ages to enjoy.
